In 1726 (sic; 1786? )* an act was passed authorizing William Derickson, Richard Clark, Ebe Walter and James Fasset to erect a mill-dam across Assawoman Creek in Baltimore Hundred, Sussex Co. [found googleing Assawoman Creek on a Derrickson web site, source not apparent but could probably be verified online at DPA.]*obviously wrong; had to be 1776 or later to be Balt Hd. Sussex

A mill was established on Assawoman Creek in 1785 which operated until 1847.

By 1817 Selbyville had a saw mill which operated for several years.

The 1837 tax list [Baltimore Hd.] show 5 taxpayers with shares in saw mills.

In 1855 Jacob Wilgus built a steam saw mill in the same area (sic; Roxana?).

Additional mills were established in Selbyville in 1879 and 1881...
the latter, using stean-powered machinery....
