Marjorie,
FYI
A website that I find useful is:

If you upload a photograph of a text document, that website will "OCR" (Optical Character Recognition) the photo to convert it from graphic format to text format.  This will greatly reduce the size of the file and will enable the resulting text to be cut-and-pasted.  Only downside is that the OCR process is not perfect, a number "1" may be converted to a letter "l" or a number "0" may convert to a letter "O".  Symbols and punctuation get scrambled.  All depends on how sharp the photo is.

Possible but the dates make it questionable. What does the P. stand for? In 1850 he is in the hh of Joshua P. Long, son of Joe Long. Birth Date: In 1880 his name is Nathaniel P. Hudson.
His birth is consistent in all the censuses: 1830, with 1900 giving May 1830 BUT Isaiah has Matilda b 31 May 1830 according to her marker in the Hudson & Tatnall list for Hudson#594.
He is not on find-a-grave in Sussex .

This is a conjecture -- the parents of Nathaniel Hudson might be Isaiah Hudson and Lovey Long. At age 20, he is found working for a neighboring family to these Hudsons, who have other children listed in the 1850 census from age 31 on down.

> Long has been separated from his wife for several months and has made a number of attempts to see her at the home of her father, Constable Elisha Hudson. yesterday afternoon he was walking by the Hudson home, when his two-year-old boy came out and spoke to him. The father picked the child up, when Hudson appeared and ordered him to leave. Long at once became enraged and alleges that Hudson started to get his gun when he fired two shots first, hitting Hudson both times in the back. Hudson was still able to reach his gun and fired in return, the load going wide, but a few of the shot struck Long in the head and neck. There has been ill-feeling between the two men for some time, as Long was about to bring a suit against his wife for a divorce on alleged misconduct.

I just made the following connection. I believe that the mother of Nathaniel P. Hudson was Fanny Pattey b 1805 [St. Martin's Reg.]of Kendal Pattey & his wife Fanny. Kendal Pattey's LWT 1820 Sussex names his dau Fanny Hudson. So the P. middle initial of Nathaniel b 1829 of Unknown Hudson is probably Pattey.

Another P. middle initial that I believe is also Pattey: Zeno P. Long of Elisha [Descendants of John McCabe pR62 lists him as Zeno Paddie Long.] And unbelievable Zeno Pattey Long m Patience "Patty Ann" McCabe of Garretson of Arthur. The sister of Patience, Elizabeth, m Nathaniel Pattey Hudson.

Isn't it exciting to make such a discovery! I don't know if this will help, but Kendall Pattey was nephew of Ananias Hudson died 1791, named in Annanias' will. His Hudsons were all from the St Martins area, but Ananias had properties in Sussex County as well as in MD. Kendal inherited 1/2 ownership in a mill. Maybe there's another hint in that will, but I don't have a copy of the original.

Yes, that Ananias had no issue so his will names lots of relatives that I have not traced completely. I did figure out who all were, except for 2 women. Kendall was the ex. of that will. Another note of interest is that Kendall had a brother Zeno Pattey.

Hi Audra, Haven't heard from you in a while. I noticed today that you have taken 117 photos of Red Men's, posted to your Yahoo Cemeteries Group, but have posted only 31 here. Would you be able to post the rest of them here or work out a way Brad could do it for you? thanks

I just recalled being told about a gate/archway at the entrance to this cemetery. Does anyone have or know of a photo of this? I would love to see one if it exists.

This list was provided to me by the caretaker of the cemetery at that time. For some of the burials in the official list, there either was no original marker or headstone, or they were destroyed by vandals in the 1970's and 1980's. The markers of a few of my WILLIAMS ancestors were lost to vandalism there over the years. The pictures on Find A Grave are mostly ones I took some years ago that I added with the entries.

Yes, that Ananias had no issue so his will names lots of relatives that I have not traced completely. I did figure out who all were, except for 2 women. Kendall was the ex. of that will. Another note of interest is that Kendall had a brother Zeno Pattey.

For lack of any other evidence, I find it interesting to try to date old photos by the clothing and hair styles. For example, the suit, tie and hair in the one of my great grandfather Milby Bunting fits well with a photo of Pres. Andrew Johnson made about 1868.

My decipher of will: Ananias identifies four brothers and four sisters,
one being Rachael married to Powell Pattey and made a bequest to their
son, Kendall. I didn't see any mention of Zeno Pattey. Could he have
been much younger or what reason to be left out?

Other siblings of Anamias: Richard, Solomon, Henry (my line), John,

Zeno Pattey was a son of Powell Pattey & Rachel Hudson (St. Martin's Reg b 1747/8.) He apparently d before 1785 as he is not mentioned in LWT of his father nor in the 1791 LWT of the brother of Rachel, Annanias Hudson.

Bill, Do you have the spouses of Henry's children? I don't have anything beyond the children in Henry's line. I am looking for a Hudson that could have married Delita Long b 1804-1810 of Joseph Long at Sandy Branch. This male Hudson would have died before 1870 as Delita is a Hudson living with 2 sisters. If she had children I have not identified them. I am unable to find a Delita Hudson in the 1850 or 1860 census.

Thanks Nina and Marjorie.  This is great.  It adds quite a bit to what I have.  Belitha>Ananias connection seems to be what others think also.   I try to fill out the descendants forward as much as I can down to the present.  Everyone else is working backwards.  Of course this soon leads to hundreds of names.  Bill Hudson of Bishopville is of the same line from Ananias' daughter Kathryn (his spelling for his great grandmother).

Nina Lou, That was Dad's summer job for several years as school was not in session.  Dad grew up on a ranch in CO so was used to that kind of work. And who do you think used to pick blueberries? (I think it was to impress on us how fortunate we were to not HAVE to do that to make money for the family.) A hot, dusty slow job! but of what good eating.

Thanks for checking over my files. I will also check what you sent in the message and make fixes. I think there is a way to make text copies of my Family Group Sheet files rather than PDF. Then we could edit them. I couldn't figure it out and wanted to get the info on fast. So delay on your part is good. Then It will be easier for you to tell me about the needed corrections.

I also wanted to tell you that when you have a lot of info like you contributed in your message on that line: you can "add a file" to an existing NAME file (folder). Just open the folder and click "add a text file" at the top right, then it will open a box at the bottom for you to type it in right there. (Not the same as adding photos.) Just remember after all that work to add or continue or save, whatever it says! Sometimes I type it first on my computer in notepad, or word pad, or save it to there to make sure I do not lose it. Those of us who were not allowed to take typing in high school because we were "Academic" have to cover ourselves!

Aunt Helen McCabe wife of Emory S.McCabe, Jr. (10/23/23-11/2010) has found some pics. of the blueberry farm and will go up to the Town Hall Museum and take a picture of the blueberry farm display. Then Doug will send to you at some point. Marjorie, Aunt Helen said your dad used to work out at the farm during blueberry season.

Ken, I printed my incomplete Family Group Sheets for the 3 recent generations. Wm Lawrence believed to be of Annanias (one of many, sigh.)

Nina Lou & all, I think I have made the corrections in the Hudson files based on info you gave in the message where you detailed you family lines. I finally figured out (again) how to create text files from my PDFs--now we can edit them on the site. However is easiest for you to send any further corrections or msg info is fine with me and whenever is fine too. I had info on Ananias's family which I just added as a new file.

That was Zeno of Elisha Long. Nina Lou,I just realized that Benjamin Long is your ancestor as well as mine. My ancestor from Benjamin was his son Joe. Yours was his son Zeno>Elisha>Zeno>Stella Mary>Mary Estella m Wm Tol.Hudson.
Did Zeno Hudson (son of Mary Estella & Wm Tol. Hudson) also have a middle initial P?
Also I noticed in the photo of your grandmother's family that Wm. is labeled as Bill Hutt. The Bill Hutt I remember was a midget but Mother & Dad were teachers when he was in high school so it could not be the same one. Can you explain?

Looks like my theory on Nathaniel's mother being Fanny Pattey is wrong. According to Jeanne Townsend she m John Thomas Hudson and went to TN: from another source I found that the marriage was in Giles TN.

Nina Lou, Do you have a source for the name Elizabeth "White"? I find Elizabeth in several sources but would like to know about her White connections.

Hi Jane, the Elmer in question is 1907 - 1992 (Bishopville Cemetery) son of John Henry Bunting and Ara Ella James.  Mrs Dorothy Pepper remarked in her centennial booklet for Salem Methodist that Elmer's property was at one time the David Murray Farm where the congregation met before a church was built, so I was hoping I could find a good enough location to add it to my map.   Thanks, Ken

Folks, I have posted a preliminary schematic for a map of Sandy Branch
Community in Photos. I stress preliminary since it mostly shows roads and streams with a few landmarks. My purpose is to find out if members will be able to read it at the size I have used and I will ask Marjorie to delete it as soon as everyone has had the chance to examine it. It is a large format with rather tiny print but it may be fairly full as I add names and properties at a later time. Ken

Ken, I am very interested in this too but I think Dorothy had the wrong David Murray. There were several David Murrays at Sandy Branch and the 2 secondary sources that Dorothy could have used disagree. Scharf states David Murray. Zebley states David James Murray and the later is the one that Dorothy used. David Murray Sr. b 1746 was my 4th gr grandfather and I have done a lot of original research on the Murrays as I found very little already done. I have concluded that these Methodist meetings were definitely NOT in the home of David James Murray (whose farm would be Elmer C. Buntings); they were probably in the home of a David Murray but if the date was before 1790 (as the Church states and this seems reasonable based on Freeborn Garretson's journal about his preaching at the location where Sound Church was built) then only David b 1746 would have been old enough to have owned property in 1790. Please read the file I added to the Murray folder on Jan 2011: WHERE DID THE METHODIST SOCIETY MEET IN 1790 OR BEFORE?

Never fails. As soon as I post anything I notice the errors. I have labeled the road in the lower right corner of the map to Bishopville and Williamsville. Wrong: it should read Milltown and Head of Sound. There was a hamlet called Milltown on the right branch of the road with a grist mill, sawmill and a few houses at the same period as Sandy Branch, later renamed Bishopsville for the postoffice in Littleton Bishop's store. I don't believe there was a Williamsville at all then. The left branch of the road angled to the NE through what is now Johnsons Corner to the hamlet called Head of Sound. The congregation of the church there relocated to Williamsville in 1849. Johnsons Corner was called Tunnels Store.

Let's make a list of those we know about.
In my family they are bit later than Beers map:
-John William Henry Baker (of Jonathan) from abt abt 1870-
-Edward V Baker (of Jonathan) from abt 1893-1900, at Ocean View; drove a horse and buggy fr Selbyville on Monday morning, boarded  there and drove home on Friday.
-Maggie Holloway (of Elisha) before her marriage in 1876 to Seth Baker (of Jonathan).
-Clara Holloway (of Elisha) never married,  abt 1884-
James Murray (can't remember which; not Sr. or Jr.)

Others of you must know of some too.
