It's from a 1997 newspaper. That's all know. A Barbara Godwin provided the photos. I'll try to contact her and she if she knows.

Bill, Where and when was this "pullout" published? Please add that to the
description of the file.
In scanning it quickly I noticed one error: Castrovillo is wrong about the
progenitor David Long being b in Worcester MD. As documented, he was b in Kent
Co MD (now Queen Ann's). I changed the name of your file so it would alphabetize
under Long.

Nina,
I don't think Gerald had a son named Louie???? Gerald and Martha Timmons had three children: Jerilyn, Susan and Timothy. Does Louie have email? I met a Louis Timmons at Gerald's funeral. I've lost tract of the Timmons family since Martha passed away.

I had a long chat yesterday with Rev Louis Timmons, formerly of Dagsboro, regarding family history.  He mentioned a Cyrus Timmons but wasn't aware of any connection to his family.
Anyone know if the Dagsboro Timmons family had any connection with this "Cyrus Timmons" mentioned below?

Folklore of Sussex County, Delaware
By Dorothy W. Pepper
Written in 1976.

John H. Middleton had a meat store in Selbyville from 1907 to 1911. This was the first meat
store with a refrigerator for meat south of Georgetown. His brother- in-law (Allie) and Harvey
Evans built the wooden refrigerator and packed it with sawdust. The ice was secured from mill
ponds and was stored in tiny houses. It was packed in sawdust to keep it from melting until
needed for refrigeration. The meat store was on the present Beula h Stevens property on Main St.
The High Hill Crossing was located at Cemetery Rd Selbyville.
The Frankford and Breakwater Railroad (part of the DE, MD, VA Railroad Co.), extended
service to Selbyville in 1886
Nancy Williams, grandmother of Dorothy Pepper was the first person buried in Redman’s
Cemetery on Jan. 27, 1887 in S.W. corner.
Guns would be fired from McCabe Store porch to call people to town when news of importance
came to the village or other communications were needed. Delaware Statesmen Thomas F.
Bayard, the first person to bear the title of Ambassador to Great Britain gave a speech from the
porch. He came with other notables on a train from Wilmington. 800 people showed up to hear
him speak.
During the Great Storm of Sept. 1888 (hurricane) a square rigger named the Barratine, went
through the iron pier of Lewes.
Druley’s Tide: Jan. 15, 1831 named for Captain Druley who lived in Bayville near the marsh
gate who was drowned in the storm, which brought tides 13 to 16 feet above marsh level. There
were many stories on sheep and cattle hanging in the tree limbs when the tide went down.
D.J. Long had a water powered lumber mill in 1840 and would sell lumber at market in Milford.
Clara Holloway (Angel of Mercy) was born Dec. 7, 1866 between Selbyville and Frankford. She
started teaching at “Cemetery” near Gumboro.
Rick “Uncle Rink” Showell and his wife Sarah Showell, lived on Polly Branch. Uncle Rink
could be seen going to town on his with horse and carriage carrying a burlap bag for groceries.
Parents would tell children to be good or Uncle Rink would put them in his bag and leave you in
Polly’s Branch, which was thought to be haunted.
In 1862 Cyrus Timmons offered $300 for an individual to go to the Civil War for him, he was 18
years old. He lived in Dog Corner, now known as Roxana. Selbyville and Roxana men belonged
to the Sixth Regiment of Delaware Volunteers, Company D. They guarded Fort Delaware on Pea
Patch Island and the railroad bridge at Havre de Grace, Md.
A fire on Feb. 13, 1916 burned the business district.

Bill, if you do, delete the membership numbers and state that names were obtained from the DAR data base for members only. I think you should ask if anyone knows if any of these names are still living or if anyone is a descendant of any of the named. I suspect many of them are not still living since it was in the 1980s that DAR contacted Mother, Christine Baker Adams d age 99 in 2005, about the fact that Patriot David Long was suspected to be inaccurate based on his age and that new applications for membership would need to prove his patriot status "from scratch" rather than by citing one of these members' applications.

Hi Marjorie:  I read with interest the names of those NSDAR members who became members under the Patriot David Long.  As Registrar of the Gen. Levin Winder Chapter, NSDAR, in Worcester Co. Maryland, I believe I can assure you that no one would be living with those member numbers.  Is Bill Long's wife a member?...........must be, because how else would he have access to this information.  One could access all of this at the NSDAR Library, but not online.  No complaint from me.......just curious.  When one of the Sussex Co. NSDAR chapters dissolved, we acquired several members.  And I have heard the rumor that David Long's line is closed to new members.  That could be confirmed or not, if you would like me to do that.

Jane, I am a member and looked up the names for Bill. I told him I doubted if any were still living as my mother Christine Baker Adams was informed in the 1980s that David Long was in doubt as a Patriot. This info is online in the DAR listing and I so informed Bill. It further states that any new members would have to prove lineage. The David Long that Mother used, before I was around, was (I suspect) his son found on the enlistment roster along with a John on the same date who is my ancestor. I ordered some papers from NARA but there was nothing in them that would prove which John Long he was so I joined on John McCabe.

Was it the Armwell Long chapter in DE that you refer to as defunct? That is the chapter to which Mother belonged.

It was a good trip although a very long day.  I did find out that it is possible to view and print some of the proofs sent with apps. at the library.  I don't know if it is true for some of the older applications.  If you go on the National website and look at the member's name and there is a "s" next to the name, it will have supporting documentation available.  You can order it from home (cost min. $30) or view for free at the library.  I looked at some of mine and noticed that not all of the proofs were available, but most.  A local gen. soc. plans a trip to D.C. every other month but they leave an hour earlier (5:00AM) and not limited to the DAR Library.  I have thought about that one before but never did anything.

According to Rev. Louis Timmons, there was once a private airport located adjacent to the Clayton High School.  The airport was operated by two former WW2 fighter pilots named Everett and Charles Long, and was financed by Rev Louis' father.  I would be interested in finding our more about this airport and these two Longs.

Bill,

I grew up very close to that airport, and I always enjoyed watching the yellow crop duster that used to take off from and land there. I understand that the pilot of that crop duster had only one good eye, so his piloting skills were all the more amazing to me...

Brad, where did you grow up?? Mr. Everett Long and Miss helen lived in the home directly across the street from JM Clayton HS and the airfield was next to their home on the Dagsboro side( JMC straddles Dagsboro and Frankford). Everett and Helen were best friends of my husband's parents so I knew them very well .They both died just a few years ago. The brother was killed in an airplane crash many years ago and my husband (Franklin Bunting ) said not to "quote" him but he thinks his name was Donald.  Nina Lou--- On Mon, 4/18/11, Bradfrogger <bradfordl@aol.com> wrote:

Everett Sr. (of Eber of Elisha of Zeno of Benjamin) m Mary Andrew,  had Paul, Donald (d 1945 in WW2), Rachel and Everett Jr. m Helen Morris (of Ollie Booth Morris & Laura Lovey Long (of Josh, of Zeno P of Elisha of Zeno of Benjamin) Josh was the brother of Nina Lou's gr grandmother.
Everett d 2005 and Helen had Barbara Jean and Everett III "Sonny". Nina do you know when Helen d.?
It would seem to be Everett Jr. who operated the airport. I do not know if he was in WW2 with his bro Donald.

Other "Daniel Hudson mentions" in that same will book: 1) p3 Daniel witness to will of Lucretia Hudson. Milford, Kent 4 MAY 1814 2) p.25
witness will of John Butler 20 OCT 1817 Broadkiln 3)p55 witness to will of Whittingham Fleetwood Nanticoke Hundred 4 FEB 1822 4) witness to will of Curtis Spicer, Dagsborough Hundred 14 MAY 1823. The only Daniel Hudson I have found in previous research is white, with connections near Georgetown and a rich Hudson family in Maryland, not the usual Hudsons I have researched. witness will of John Butler 20 OCT 1817 Broadkiln 3)p55 witness to will of Whittingham Fleetwood Nanticoke Hundred 4 FEB 1822 4) witness to will of Curtis Spicer, Dagsborough Hundred 14 MAY 1823. The only Daniel Hudson I have found in previous research is white, with connections near Georgetown and a rich Hudson family in Maryland, not the usual Hudsons I have researched. Daniel Hudson could well be black in the George Long entry; does anyone know about the other witnesses there, Purnal Tindal and Robert Barr?

A while back there was a question about where the Hudson Tavern might have been located.
Did Mr. Ollie inherit the Stone Bar.
Was the building old enough to have been the Hudson Tavern mentioned earlier? or Could it have been rebuilt in the same location?

This is what I have on Everett Long. I do not have a Charles who would be his contemporary.

Off the top of my head: since stone was not a local commodity and people buried before 1800 rarely had stone grave markers, I doubt that the Stone Bar (which IS built of Stone) was that old. (It was a 1799 will that mentioned Hudson's Tavern.) Since the Stone Bar is very close to the road, it must have been built after 113 was built. Hudson's Tavern would have been more likely on the "King's Highway" which as it goes through Selbyville is Main St.

OK Marjorie---Yes, I knew granmom Hudson (Stella Mary Long) connected us with Helen Morris Long  Remember ,Mr. Ollie had the Stone Bar and they lived across the road (Rt. 113) Franklin said if Donald died in WWII then Paul must have been the crop duster who crashed in the fog up near the C and D Canal (near Middletown). Miss Helen died about 2-3 years after Everett--so about 07 or 08.Barbara lives in Alpharetta, GA--we exchange Christmas cards-----She and Norman  Schultz(retired pilot) have 1 adopted son in his late 30's or early 40's.Miss Rachel was a hair dresser --her home and shop were next door to JMC HS.Her daughters were Joan Holloway( married Donald --lived and taught Home. This is what I have on Everett Long. I do not have a Charles who would be his contemporary.
