You are eligible to participate in the Long Surname DNA Project if you meet any one or more of the following criteria:

HOW TO JOIN THE LONG SURNAME DNA PROJECT

To join the LONG Surname DNA Project, go to the LONG GROUP JOIN REQUEST PAGE and order a test kit.  When ordering a test kit from this web site, the price includes a group rate discount.

If you've already purchased a Y-DNA test kit from FamilyTree DNA, but are not yet a participant in the Long Surname DNA Project, you can join at no additional cost.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE A DNA TEST WITH ANOTHER DNA TESTING COMPANY AND WISH TO JOIN

If you've already tested with another company, (such as Ancestry, Trace Genetics, Roots for Real, Relative Genetics, Oxford Ancestors, GeoGene, Gene Tree, DNAPrint Genomics, DNAHeritage, African Ancestry, etc) you should upload your results to the YSearch database using the appropriate conversion factors.   Due to quality assurance concerns, I cannot add you to the Long Surname DNA Project based on DNA test results from a company other than Family Tree DNA unless you purchase a conversion kit.   Check with the Administrator to see if there is any special promo is in effect for conversion.  See Promo

NOTE:  On August 5, 2011 FTDNA posted the following announcement to its Project Administrators:

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new feature we hope will benefit your projects: Y-DNA "Third Party" uploads.

This will allow for the upload of 33 and 46-marker Y-DNA test results from Ancestry, GeneTree and Sorensen's SMGF. This was a natural development since the necessary tools were created to import the DNA Heritage database after they ceased operations. While the DNA Heritage transfer is free of charge as a result of that acquisition, we will be charging a nominal fee of $19 per person to import third party results into Family Tree DNA. This $19 fee will be credited to customers who order upgrades or add-ons.

For an additional $39, customers who transfer their third party results will also have additional markers tested so that they can receive matches to Family Tree DNA's 25 or 37-marker level, ancestral origins, and other features of the personal page.

Please forward the following link to those who may be interested in ordering the Third Party transfer:

If you are eligible for this new feature, use the above link.

If you've already been tested as part of the National Genographic Project, see Paragraph #8 at:  https://www.familytreedna.com/genographic-project.aspx
(Note: Genographic Project results must first be transferred to Family Tree DNA before he can be added to the project.  To transfer results from National Geographic to Family Tree DNA, first go to www.genographic.com and login using your GP ID. Go to the bottom of the page and click on Learn More. Follow the step by step instructions to transfer your results to FTDNA's database free of charge. Once the transfer is complete, you will receive an FTDNA kit number and password and will be able to login to FTDNA's website.)
